Painting

Lately I’ve had the urge to paint more. So what are my excuses? Every day I think I should just get out the paints today and do a little. I enjoy oil painting.  I’m self taught and I know I don’t practice enough. But without your own space, how can you start an oil painting and keep it from being ruined when you need to move it?

Here’s a couple of my paintings. So far I don’t have very many.my tokyo disneylandMy bathroom pic

A while back I had the idea to try acrylics, because they dry faster and can be put away. Here is my unfinished work.myBeach Painting

I’m also trying to get better at computer art, but it still doesn’t fill the need to squish paint and smell paint and mush it around.

Despite my excuses, and how long it’s been since I painted anything, almost every morning I wake up and think “I should get out my paints today”.

  3. Today I saw the coolest art journal (made scrapbook style) with 7Gypsies products, and my heart started beating really fast...that feeling that I really need to do something cool and creative...
I am sure you get it looking back over your works, they are so great.....keep painting. even if it is just a few minutes a day.
I keep wondering...should I start gettin gup early to make more time for myself, or just stay up late and enjoy my night owl preference? An extra hour a few times a week could really help......

  5. I love acrylics and haven't painted in forever, I need to get motivated. I love blending paints into a new color and I do miss it.

  7. These are beautiful! I'm very impressed you are self taught. My mother was going to teach me oil's about half my life ago and we got the first layer down and it's still laying around her house somewhere.

I love acrylics though. I had to use them for one of my college classes, and I totally fell in love! They are way fun, and for me, being as impatient as I am, I love that they dry so fast. I'm always telling myself that I should get out my paints too . . . but it never happens.

  8. The paintings you have shown look great. I have done some paintings in the past, but the motivation is not there. I guess the passion is not that strong to persist. But on the other hand its the crafts and home decorating that has the bigger pull in my life at the moment. If I had my own place I would be making a master piece for a garden. Keep up the good work in painting- you have the eye for it!

  9. You are really, really good! No wonder you feel a drive to do it. It must be satisfying to see something in your head and have it come out actually looking that way!

  13. Yes, oils can be a challenge with not only storage, but odor. Its hard to paint with oils in the dining room, then try to serve dinner there that night! You do need a seperate area. I usually stick with water color or acryllic.

  14. That's so true. I didn't use real turpentine, and that helps, but I painted them in the breakfast nook and I think it did smell a bit weird, even though no one said anything.
