Does everybody want to fix up their home in January or is it just me? I think it’s time to tackle all the projects I was wishing I could get done before the holidays but knew I couldn’t. Rearrange things that bug me, change a paint color here and there, you know the feeling.
But I just stopped by Karla’s Cottage and read about her ‘zero dollar decorating’ and I think I need to give this a try. I may have a few projects swimming in my head, but why not start with some things I already have? For example, I have a couple of word plaques that my sister and I found for a steal. The one she bought (Blessings) looks so nice in her house. Mine is still in a plastic bag. Why???? Because I haven’t been sure about the perfect place for it? That’s what putty and paint is for. How many other framed things do I have sitting around?
Tomorrow the kids will be in school again, and Jon at work, and I have a busy day ahead to box up the rest of the Christmas decor and see what I can accomplish.
Operation Cozy House
In my mind my house has been missing a ‘warmth factor’ in it’s decorating and I want to try and do something about it this year. I need to be more focused.. I would describe my house now as having the necessary large pieces of furniture; beds, tables, sofas and the like, and some cute decorations and accessories that I’ve found over time. But what I really seem to be missing is a middle layer- things like lamps, end tables and rugs. The things that make a place feel finished and welcoming. I don’t want a lot of clutter, I just want my home to feel more homey. I don’t have a lot of budget either, but it will be an opportunity to use my creativity.
We will see what the year brings. But I will commit to posting a before and after picture at the end of January- even if its just a few pictures hung up!

Good luck! I'm excited to see what you accomplish.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynnae - I wanted to come by and say a big THANK YOU for the sweet comment you left about my blog being published in Romantic Homes. It really is a thrill, but it’s also a thrill to connect with such kind bloggers like you. Thanks again and best wishes for a wonderful 2010! ~ xo Joy
ReplyDeleteWhen you're done, come to my house. And maybe Karla will come too. xoxo
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I have moved that plaque already because I got another huge clock for Christmas and it looks great by the clock- I will post a picture soon.
ReplyDeleteBut I think you should know I LOVE your house and felt the need to come home and clean up my joint and fix it up a little after I stayed at your place last time.
