Anniversary of Jane Austen’s Death

“…….I have lost a treasure, such a sister, such a friend as never can have been surpassed. She was the sun of my life, the gilder of every pleasure, the soother of every sorrow; I had not a thought concealed from her, and it is as if I had lost a part of myself.”

-Cassandra Austen, at the death of her beloved sister Jane.

Today is the Anniversary of Jane Austen’s passing. I have read many Jane Austen biographies, and am always saddened by the melancholy end.

Read more about this anniversary on Jane Austen Today.

  1. Take that Walter Cronkite!
    Sorry. Had to say that.
Actually this reminds me of Miss Austen Regrets - which was so sad that I regretted watching it and had to watch the butterflies and rainbows version - Becoming Jane - just to be able to function again.

Hmmm...maybe I've been living here too long. I'm starting to sound a little fem-y.

  2. I lost my only sister when I was 34 and she was 32, to breast cancer. She left 5 children under the age of 12. My life was never the same. Her husband married and divorced twice, trying to find a mother for his children. It was not a good situation. She was my closest friend.

  3. I should celebrate Jane Austen's life by finally getting around to reading Sense and Sensibility. It is sitting there on my headboard begging to be read!
