For My Daughter

I don’t always get personal on my blog here, but I haven’t written much lately because my daughter has had a severe headache and other problems for a month now. It’s been debilitating and frustrating. We see a neurologist tomorrow and are praying they can help her. The stresses of school, work, and her graduation have faded into the background and we just want her to get better. Prayers for Arianne are appreciated. Thank you.

Spring Pictures

IMG_1408The other day I decided to ring in Spring by taking some pictures of early blooms. While I was out it actually started to snow! Ugh!

Anyway, this first set is at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens.

The next pictures come from Meydenbauer Beach Park (the blue skies became white….)

It started to snow. I took this last picture as I walked quickly back to my car. The snow didn’t stick on the ground, but it was still too cold for me!

Chalkboard Project

 chalkboard 1

I made this chalkboard as a Super Saturday craft a while back and finally got around to hanging it up. We were repainting old window frames, and after washing and sanding mine I decided to leave the paint as-is. We replaced the glass area with a board painted with chalkboard paint. I added a row of square nails across the bottom for keys.

I decided to hang it on my tricky wall, so you’ll have to tell me what you think. The tricky thing about this wall is that it has the doorbell box, a thermostat, and an oddly placed switch plate. I shopped my house for other little things to put around the chalkboard and balance out the little boxes.  I think it looks pretty, but I don’t know if it’s cluttered or if I’m just not used to it because the wall was so plain before.

IMG_1425I also went to Michaels and found a sale on little garden and home decorations. Several cute little things I’ve been admiring were half off. I bought these cute little hangers for the pantry closet. I decided to mix and match rather than go with a matched set. It makes me smile every time I open the pantry.

Hawaii, The Way I Remember It

color altered by AriannePICT0219I did not just sneak off to Hawaii without you even knowing it. Actually these pictures are from a couple of years ago when we took the kids, and it was our first ever trip there.

It was sunny, warm, and beautiful. But after the trip, when I reviewed the pictures, they just didn’t capture the warmth. They were pretty gray and shadowy. They could have been taken at home in Seattle. It many our faces were obscured in shadow.

In the few years since then I have learned (uh…my daughter   showed me) how to fix the lighting and shadows. Recently I ran  across the Hawaii pictures, and this time I played with them all in Microsoft Digital Image Pro, and suddenly it’s Hawaii the way I remembered it.

Thrift Store Find

nook table chairs 2   I had a few minutes to kill down in town and decided to check out Goodwill. I like to go there presumably to look for frames I can use, but always look at the furniture, and I saw these cute little turquoise chairs. I knew they would look great in my breakfast nook. The paint is a little chippy, probably from being repainted without a primer. That look is in though too, so I will live with that for a while while I decide if I want to touch them up. After having a mish-mosh of chairs all these years I love seeing matching chairs in there. And the best part…. four chairs for $3.99 each.
